Modeling is a profession wherein individuals sell products, fashion, or ideas through “modeling” activities such as posing for photographs, walking on runways, or endorsing advertisements. A model communicates the language of a brand or idea through expression, body language, and appearance.

 A modeling career could be described in many forms such as fashion model, commercial model, runway model, sports model or fitness model, print model, to name a few. Each type of modeling career is relative to a variety of looks or images, presentation, and skill set.

A model should have confidence, body awareness and posture, awareness of their skin and skin-care, and should be capable of posing in an unposed way. Communicative ability and professionalism within the industry are also important skills.

A model portfolio is important because it illustrates a models’ best work, ability to adapt, range, and flexibility. Agencies, clients and customers will judge if a model fits their project or brand based on their portfolio.

Anyone can be a model. However, there are various types of modeling that require specific criteria. For example, high fashion or runway modeling often has certain height and weight specifications while a commercial model may not have any specific specifications.
